Within each unit, selections are arranged so that the student progresses from reading for pleasure to reading for inspiration to reading for wisdom. Several selections on reading for wisdom require reading with discernment, a goal toward which all literature teachers hope to direct their students. Questions at the end of each selection progress from factual to evaluative and guide the student in interpreting, evaluating, and applying the key ideas presented in that selection. Also included in the texts are short biographical sketches of individual authors. | |
